Somali Cabinet Approves Draft IDPs Act

Somalia’s Council of Ministers has approved the draft Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Act.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, the cabinet approved the Act during its weekly meeting held on Thursday.

The National Commission for Refugees and IDPs (NCRI) had prepared and presented the draft act to the ministers for approval.

NCRI is a sub-agency of the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation.

Both NCRI and the interior ministry expressed their pleasure at the outcome. They welcomed the cabinet’s seal of approval.

The IDPs Act now moves to the next step.

It will be presented to the House of the People (Lower House) to give legislators an opportunity to review, amend, approve, and pass it.
