Mogadishu, Somalia – The Somali government has firmly condemned the violence that broke out in Awdal region, particularly in Borama city, characterizing the incident as “regrettable and preventable.”
According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, the government expressed condolences to the families of victims and wished speedy recovery to those injured. The ministry stressed that such violent acts exacerbate an already fragile situation and called upon Somaliland authorities to address the concerns of local residents.
The government appealed to traditional leaders, religious figures, business community members, women, youth, and all residents of Awdal to remain peaceful, avoid actions that could intensify the conflict, and strive to maintain harmony within their communities. The statement encouraged all parties to use dialogue as the main approach for resolving current disputes.
Furthermore, the federal government reiterated its willingness to provide medical aid for those wounded in the incident and committed to supporting any necessary humanitarian efforts.
