GCTP President Meets Somali Parliament Official in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Second Deputy Speaker of Somalia’s House of the People, Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, today welcomed a distinguished international delegation to Mogadishu, headed by Ahmed bin Mohamed Al-Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP).

The Deputy Speaker was joined by legislators from both the House of the People and the Senate at the reception, highlighting Somalia’s commitment to building international alliances for peace.

During his stay in the capital, President Al-Jarwan will engage in strategic discussions with the leadership of both Houses of the federal parliament. The objective of these important talks is to reinforce peace frameworks, advance tolerance and forgiveness principles, and improve collaboration among international parliamentary institutions.

A primary goal of the visit involves the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Somali Federal Parliament and the GCTP. This pact is poised to enhance Somalia’s international standing, positioning the country as a significant contributor to the Council. The collaboration seeks to increase Somalia’s presence in worldwide platforms focused on conflict resolution and reconciliation.

The visit demonstrates the federal parliament’s dedication to incorporating Somalia into worldwide peacebuilding initiatives and implementing global best practices in promoting social harmony.
