Somali police arrested a senior officer with the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
Abdullahi Mohamed Ali, the Director-General of the labour ministry, is now in police custody after his arrest on Thursday.
On Friday, the Office of the Attorney General confirmed that he would be facing corruption and neglecting public property charges.
The AG’s office added that Ali would appear in court to answer these charges soon.
His arrest comes at a time when the administration of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has increased its anti-corruption efforts.
