Somali Transport Ministry Meets with Mogadishu Development Company on Aviation and Infrastructure Projects

MOGADISHU — The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation and the New Mogadishu Development Company (NMDC) have reached a strategic agreement to enhance their collaboration on significant infrastructure initiatives, following a high-level working meeting in the capital.

The agreement was finalized after discussions led by the Ministry’s Director General, Mr. Omar Afrax. Accompanied by a team of directors and technical experts, the Director General conducted an official visit to the company’s headquarters to review the operational framework for upcoming projects.

Focus on Aviation and Energy

A primary result of the discussions was the establishment of a joint framework to synchronize government transport objectives with NMDC’s development strategies. The dialogue placed special emphasis on the proposed New Mogadishu International Airport (NMIA), with participants examining detailed plans for aviation infrastructure and its integration into national transportation systems.

Authorities stated that improved aviation infrastructure would boost domestic and international connections, reduce future travel expenses, and encourage trade and investment.

Beyond transport, the meeting concentrated on the development of reliable electricity and energy networks in the “New Mogadishu” zone. Officials claimed these utilities are crucial for supporting homes, enterprises, and public organizations in the expanding urban area.

Strategic Partnership

Both parties pledged to coordinate more closely to expedite the completion of these key projects. The continued partnership is projected to broaden citizen access to services and creating employment opportunities as Somalia endeavors to restore essential systems following decades of conflict.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to ongoing cooperation to achieve sustainable growth and advance the nation’s wider national development objectives.
