Somalia has recorded one of the highest numbers of new daily COVID-19 cases since confirming the first case in March 2020.
On April 9, the Ministry of Health confirmed 293 new COVID-19 cases from samples tested over the last 24 hours.
Somaliland leads with 103 cases followed by Puntland and Jubbaland with 94 and 41 cases respectively.
HirShabelle has 22 cases, Banadir 17, Galmudug 11, and Southwest 5.
The health ministry announced that 188 of the patients are male while the remaining 105 are female.
Furthermore, the ministry also announced 71 new recoveries and 29 deaths.
Currently, the tally of confirmed cases is 11,978 with 5,058 recoveries, and 576 fatalities since last year.
Somalis have been warned to adhere to the measures recently announced to curb the spread of the disease.
The East African nation is experiencing the second wave of the deadly pandemic.
