Mogadishu, Somalia – The head of Somalia’s Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahamuud Moallim Abdulle, convened a significant meeting today with major international donors from the European Union, United States, and United Nations. The primary focus was developing an effective and rapid strategy to address the critical drought conditions affecting the country.
Discussions centered on evaluating the drought’s progression, which has escalated to critical proportions, affecting numerous communities throughout Somalia. Abdulle delivered an extensive overview of the pressing humanitarian requirements, emphasizing that extensive territories require immediate emergency aid to sustain lives.
“We have reached a critical juncture where swift action is imperative to assist those most at risk, particularly populations experiencing severe water and food scarcity,” Abdulle stated during the proceedings.
Following the presentation, donor representatives voiced grave concern regarding the worsening humanitarian circumstances. They reaffirmed their support for the Somali population and promised to enhance their financial and material contributions. The donors committed to reinforcing their partnership with SoDMA to facilitate effective aid distribution and alleviate the severe impacts of this environmental crisis.
Wrapping up the session, the SoDMA chief reiterated his appeal to the wider international community. He called upon global stakeholders to increase their engagement and rapidly allocate resources to assist the millions of Somalis whose existence and means of survival are endangered by the ongoing drought.
