A Somali court has imprisoned five government officials for corruption while acquitting seven more.
A case involving over 10 officials from various government ministries, departments, and agencies has been going on at the Benadir Regional Court for weeks now.
The court concluded the case this week.
On Thursday morning, Benadir Regional Court passed various sentences to five of the accused while acquitting the rest.
Abdirahman Abdikarin Ibrahim received 9 years in prison. Apart from that, he was barred from holding any public office for the rest of his life.
Abubakar Mohamed Ali got 8 years while Sabir Hassan Abdinur is to spend the next three-and-a-half years of his life in jail.
One-year jail terms went to Abdullahi Mohamud Osoble and Omar Maalin Noor.
