Somalia Launches Campaign to Save 10.7 Million Animals from Drought

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has launched a campaign to save more than 10.7 million animals in the country from the effects of the ongoing drought.

On February 8, the federal Ministry of Livestock and Forestry launched the National Livestock Supportive Treatment Campaign.

The campaign targets over 10.7 million that are in the hands of around 267,500 households around the country.

During the campaign, the animals would receive treatment to ensure that they are in the best possible health.

Additionally, the campaign seeks to make the animals as productive as possible through increasing milk supply and production.

According to the livestock ministry, the campaign would strengthen food security within the households that own the animals.

The campaign is possible through a partnership between the livestock ministry and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
