Somalia Launches Disaster Relief Program for Turkey’s Earthquake Victims

Somalia has launched a disaster relief program to help victims of the recent deadly earthquake in Turkey.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre announced the launch of the program on Thursday.

The program kicked off a day after the Prime Minister led the cabinet in forming an 11-member committee to coordinate Somalia’s response to the emergency in Turkey.

Last week, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake reduced Turkey to a nation of mourning and despair.

Thus far, close to 35,000 people have lost their lives in both Turkey and Syria, where the earthquake was at its most devastating form.
