Special Forces Neutralize Senior Al-Shabaab Explosives Expensive in Operation

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali security forces eliminated a high-level Al-Shabaab commander during a pivotal moment in the campaign against the militants, with complete backing from international allies, notably the US Africa Command and the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

Special Forces executed an overnight raid in Lower Shabelle, taking out a senior commander responsible for bombings throughout the region. He faced accusations of fueling instability across the Horn of Africa.

Hassan Siidow Hussein coordinated improvised explosive devices (IEDs) aimed at civilians and security personnel. His actions severely hampered transportation nationwide.

Officials stated that Hassan was followed through prolonged surveillance before being eliminated along with three armed escorts in the Cumar Beere area. His demise represents a key breakthrough in the battle against Al-Shabaab fighters.

The Somali National Army (SNA) working with the US Africa Command and the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), has confronted the Al-Shabaab group over the past two decades.

The militants’ guerrilla methods have proven nearly impossible to overcome entirely, given their solid presence in central and southern Somalia. Yet recent operations have restricted their reach to limited zones.

The SNA has faced criticism for inadequate efforts against the insurgents, leaning heavily on foreign troops whose mandates near expiration. Still, the government expresses confidence in ultimately defeating the group.
