Somalia, Türkiye Hold Ankara Talks on Port Development and Maritime Collaboration

Ankara, Turkiye – Somalia and Turkiye engaged in high-level discussions on Thursday to enhance cooperation in the maritime sector, with particular emphasis on modernizing Somali ports and reinforcing strategic marine services.

Somali Minister of Ports and Marine Transport Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur and his Turkish counterpart, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, met in Ankara to deliberate on port development initiatives, maritime security measures, and technological exchange programs.

Officials indicated that the primary objective of these negotiations is to bring Somalia’s maritime services in line with international commercial benchmarks and elevate the nation’s significance within regional trade networks.

Nur extended appreciation to the Turkish government for its sustained support, highlighting that the partnership is instrumental in bolstering Somalia’s stability, economic advancement, and blue economy aspirations.

He emphasized that enhanced port infrastructure and deeper collaboration with Turkey would enable Somalia to improve its maritime capabilities and forge stronger connections with regional powers.
