Somalia Won’t Treat Ethiopia as a Regional Ally in Advancing Peace

Somalia will not treat Ethiopia as a regional ally in the advancement of peace and security.

Hussein Sheikh-Ali, the National Security Advisor, said that Ethiopia can’t be a Somalia ally if it continues to violate the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He accused Ethiopia of breaching the political independence of Somalia.

Sheikh-Ali mentioned that Somalia expects Ethiopia to play no further part in the security sector in the country once the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) leave.

ATMIS will no longer be in the East African nation from January next year.

With the exception of Ethiopia, the Somali government expects all nations contributing their forces to ATMIS to join the new multinational force that will secure Somalia from January 1, 2025.
