On March 22, 2025, a Kenyan-registered De Havilland Canada DHC-5D Buffalo cargo plane, operated by Trident Aviation under registration 5Y-RBA, crashed near Ceel Xabaaloow, approximately 24 kilometers southwest of Mogadishu, Somalia.
The aircraft was en route from Dhobley Airport to Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu when it experienced a technical failure and lost contact with air traffic control shortly after takeoff.
All five crew members on board, identified as Kenyan nationals, tragically lost their lives in the accident.
While confirming the fatalities, the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) said that it has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the crash and has extended condolences to the families of the deceased crew members.
