Somalia’s Federal Electoral Disputes Committee is to elect a new chairman soon.
On January 17, the committee appointed a mini-committee whose primary objective is to prepare for the election of a new chairperson.
The five-member committee organizing the chairperson’s elections features Bashir Ahmed Yusuf and Mohamed Aweys Mohamed.
Other members include Adnan Mohamed Abdalla, Saaqo Adan Mohamed, and Ayaan Abdirahman Mohamud.
In December 2021, Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble sacked seven members of the Electoral Disputes Resolution Committee, including the Chairperson.
Prime Minister Roble accused the seven of violating the electoral code of conduct.
The Prime Minister considered the seven guilty of practicing partiality while discharging their duties.
