Somalia’s Media Rights Groups Denounce the Detention of Radio Journalist

Several media rights groups have denounced the detention of a radio journalist in Mogadishu on the night of October 17.

On Saturday night, Abdullahi Kulmiye Addow, a veteran journalist working for Radio Kulmiye, was arrested by officers from the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).

His family and friends confirmed that Addow was being detained at an undisclosed location.

Furthermore, they confirmed that none of them had been able to visit Addow despite their best efforts.

Somali Journalists Syndicate (SJS) denounced the decision to arrest Addow.

Similarly, Somali Media Association (SOMA) also voiced its disapproval of the radio journalist’s detention by NISA.

Mohamed Abduwahab Abdullahi, SOMA’s Secretary General, stated that Addow’s detention was an abduction. He urged authorities to release Addow immediately.

Abdalle Ahmed Mumin, the Secretary General of SJS, also urged the government to release the journalist unconditionally.
