Somaliland has accused Somalia of blocking its quest for official recognition from the international community.
Liban Yusuf Gahanuug, Somaliland’s Assistant Minister of Health, voiced his condemnation of Somalia over this issue.
Gahanuug was speaking following the comments attributed to Abdisaid Muse Ali, Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Ali had voiced his opposition at the debate on Somaliland’s quest for international recognition. The debate took place at the House of Commons.
According to Gahanuug, Ali’s comments are proof of the “open hatred” that Somalia harbors towards Somaliland.
Barkhaad Batuun, a Somaliland opposition Member of Parliament (MP) added his voice to Gahanuug’s.
He urged Somalia to focus on bringing peace to the country instead of wasting time blocking Somaliland’s pursuit of official recognition from the international community.
