A murderer in Somaliland escaped death after agreeing to pay 100 camels as compensation.
An unnamed man who had been found guilty of murder was set to join four other people for execution on Tuesday, September 6.
However, at the last minute, he agreed to pay a compensation of 100 camels.
This last-minute gesture saved his life.
His execution, and that of his four other colleagues, was set to take place in Madheera, which is to the northeast of Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland.
As the firing squad was getting ready to execute the five men, the families of the victim and one of the murderers showed up at the venue.
They proceeded to untie him from the pole where he had been tied awaiting execution.
The other four were shot to death.
