Somaliland President Calls for Direct and Comprehensive Ties with Türkiye

On February 16, 2025, President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro Somaliland met with Ambassador Alper Aktaş, the Turkish envoy to Somaliland and Somalia, at the Presidential Palace in Hargeisa.

Ambassador Aktaş congratulated President Irro on his recent electoral victory and commended the peaceful democratic transition in Somaliland.

Their discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas such as economic development, education, healthcare, infrastructure, vocational training, and humanitarian efforts.

President Irro expressed a strong interest in establishing a direct and comprehensive relationship with Turkey.

President Irro’s election in November 2024 marked a significant milestone for Somaliland. He secured 63.92% of the vote, leading to a peaceful transfer of power and signaling a new chapter in Somaliland’s political landscape.

The recent dialogue between President Irro and Ambassador Aktaş reflects a mutual commitment to strengthening ties and collaborating on initiatives that promote peace and development in the region.
