Somaliland’s Presidential Candidate Forced to Relocate over Fears for His Life

A candidate in the upcoming presidential elections in Somaliland has been forced to move to a new residential house.

Abdirahman Irro, the leader of the opposition Waddani Party, moved from his house in Hargeisa to a new one.

His new house is still in Hargeisa but towards the east of the capital.

According to some of Irro’s closest allies, the decision to relocate was borne out of the realization that his life could be in danger.

Irro has been at the forefront of organizing street protests by opposition supporters.

The protests are a way of showing displeasure at the reports that the Somaliland government plans to postpone the presidential elections, which are set for October-November 2022.
