Southwest Opposes Plan by Somalia to Kick Ethiopia Forces Out of the Country

The regional state of Southwest has raised objections over the plans by the Somali government to kick Ethiopian forces out of the country.

On Saturday, it emerged that Somalia would not allow Ethiopian forces to provide security anywhere in the country beyond December 31, 2024.

Currently, Ethiopia has several troops in Somalia.

Some of the troops are part of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) while the rest are non-ATMIS.

Southwest’s Ministry of Security hailed the role played by the Ethiopian troops in the region and country as a whole.

The ministry thanked them for their peacekeeping operations in Somalia.
