The government of Sudan has pledged that it would support Somalia’s pursuit of peace.
Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement over the weekend supporting a recent agreement between the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and the African Union Commission (AUC).
In the agreement, African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) now sees its mandate extended.
Sudan has now commended AMISOM for the role its troops continue to play in making Somalia peaceful, secure, and stable.
AMISOM was initially supposed to withdraw its troops from Somalia by the end of this year.
When it entered Somalia close to 10 years ago, the plan was for AMISOM tp help the country to implement a national security strategy.
Other than that, AMISOM’s mandate also included training and building the capacity of the country’s security system.
Sudan has now promised to support all efforts by the different stakeholders to cooperate internally and internationally with different players for the sake of all Somalis.
