Trump Committed to Withdrawing US Troops from Somalia by January 2021

President Donald Trump remains committed to pulling out United States’ troops from Somalia by January 2021 when he leaves office.

A communiqué from the White House said that Trump has vowed to withdraw US troops from the Horn of Africa nation.

The outgoing US President had announced plans to pull his officers out of Somalia in 2016 during the presidential campaigns.

A few weeks ago, reports from his office indicated that he would urge the most trusted members of his administration to prepare for the troops’ withdrawal.

The US has around 700 servicemen in the East African nation.

Last week, President Trump sacked Mark Esper, his Defense Secretary.

A report by the New York Times shows that Trump sacked Esper in response to the latter’s decision not to deploy troops during the recent Black Lives Matter protests.
