UAE Condemns Assassination Attempt Against Somalia’s President

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has condemned the Tuesday assassination attempt on Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, which resulted in multiple casualties.

Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Minister of State, reiterated the nation’s firm rejection of violence and terrorism that threaten security and stability.

He also offered condolences to the victims’ families and wished a swift recovery for the injured.

President Mohamud has been actively engaged in efforts to stabilize Somalia, including combating the militant group al-Shabaab.

In August 2022, following a deadly hotel attack in Mogadishu that killed 21 people, he declared an “all-out war” on the group.

The international community has been urged to support Somalia’s new administration in its endeavors to achieve lasting peace and stability.

The UAE’s condemnation reflects the broader international stance against acts of violence and terrorism in Somalia.

The global community continues to support Somalia in its fight against extremist groups and in its efforts to establish peace and security in the region.
