The United Nations has increased the calls for humanitarian assistance to Somalia, which is currently in the middle of a severe drought.
A statement from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) shows that the organization has doubled up on its efforts.
OCHA issued a statement on the issue on Monday, October 18.
The organization has identified southern Somalia as the worst-hit region in the country.
In its statement, OCHA cited the drought that began in June 2021 as the cause of untold suffering in Jubaland and other parts of the East African nation.
Further, OCHA states that people in the southern regions have no access to safe drinking water, good hygiene, or improved sanitation facilities.
OCHA indicates that over 125,000 people experience severe water shortages.
