Jocelyn Mason, the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) Representative to Somalia, has appealed for increased humanitarian assistance for the country.
His comments come during a year when the East African nation has been forced to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, deadly floods, and desert locust invasion.
The triple crisis the country is facing has pushed many people into desperation.
Families are now unable feed themselves or afford the most basic needs in life, such as shelter, clothing, and food.
For this reason, hundreds of thousands of Somalis around the country need humanitarian assistance urgently.
Nevertheless, Mason said that the Horn of Africa country requires long-term development more than it does the humanitarian assistance, which is only a temporary solution.
