United States urges Ethiopia to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia.
The US said this through Molly Phee, its Assistant Secretary of State for Africa.
On behalf of the US government, Phee expressed deep concern over the January 1 seaport access agreement that Ethiopia and Somaliland signed.
The agreement is controversial in Somalia, which accuses Ethiopia of breaching its sovereignty.
“Ethiopia has to respect its neighbors sovereignty,” said Phee.
“We call upon Ethiopia to use the seas and ports in the neighboring countries purely for commercial purposes in line with international laws,” continued the Assistant Secretary.
