The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has called for the immediate withdrawal of Somaliland forces from Las Anod.
Members of the UNSC issued a draft statement dated February 24 expressing “deep concern over the expansion and intensification of clashes in northern parts of Somalia.”
They added that the ongoing clashes could worsen the humanitarian crisis in the East African nation.
Las Anod has witnessed nonstop clashes for the past few weeks.
The clashes pit Somaliland troops against forces loyal to Mogadishu.
Hundreds of residents have lost their lives as thousands more nurse their injuries. Further, countless families are now internally displaced persons (IDPs).
