The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has authorized African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to remain in the country until December 31, 2023.
The UNSC adopted a resolution this week extending ATMIS’ mandate.
Initially, ATMIS was to pull all its forces out of the East African nation by the end of this year.
Already, plans are underway to reduce its presence by 2,000 troops as of Friday, June 30.
