The Senate (Upper House) has passed the National ID and Registration Bill.
Senators passed the bill during a session held at the parliamentary buildings in Mogadishu on Saturday.
With the bill passed, the barriers to the rollout of national IDs to Somalis are now removed.
Millions of Somalis have not registered or obtained IDs for over three decades.
Earlier, the House of the People legislators had endorsed the bill paving way for its movement to the Upper House for further debate.
