The United States has denied reports that it has sent an official invitation to the newly-elected President of Somalia.
Reports in Somalia had given the impression that President-Elect Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has received an official invitation to visit the US.
However, officials from the US Embassy in Mogadishu denied the reports.
In their statement, the US officials indicated that the invitation might be forthcoming in the months or years ahead but not now.
Instead, they expressed their belief that President-Elect Mohamud is currently busy setting up his government.
