US Increases Number of Somalis Subject to Visa Restrictions over Delayed Elections

The United States plans to increase the number of Somalis who are subject to visa restrictions for their role in Somalia’s delayed elections.

Somalia was to conclude its parliamentary elections by March 15.

However, several regional states were unable to hold their House of the People (Lower House) polls by that date.

On March 16, Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced the new measures the US would take against individuals responsible for the delayed elections.

A few months ago, the US decided to apply visa restrictions to any individual responsible for delaying Somalia’s federal parliament polls.

Now, it has increased the number of people liable to these restrictions.

Nevertheless, Secretary of State Blinken has not published the names of the individuals facing visa restrictions.
