The United States has called for an immediate ceasefire in the troubled town of Las Anod in northern Somalia.

A delegation from the US Embassy in Mogadishu visited Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland, on Thursday.

They held discussions with local officials.

Tim Trenkle, the Charge d’Affaires at the US Embassy, led the delegation in traveling to Hargeisa where they met with political and civil society leaders.

Specifically, they spoke with President Muse Bihi Abdi of Somaliland.

A communiqué from the US Embassy stated that the officials held “frank discussions” with the Somaliland President on the tragic loss of lives in Las Anod.

Trenkle’s team discussed Las Anod violence, Somaliland-US engagement, and regional security with Somaliland government officials.
