The United States will not stop supporting Somalia as the impending departure of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) troops draws near.
Shane Dixon, the Charge d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Mogadishu, confirmed this during his press briefing on Tuesday.
“The US government remains committed to building an effective and strong security force in Somalia even after the departure of the ATMIS troops,” Dixon stated.
He also condemned Al-Shabaab saying that it’s not the future of the country.
Instead, Charge d’Affaires Dixon called the people and government of Somalia the future of the country hence the need to continue supporting them.
“The US will continue supporting Somalia’s ongoing war against Al-Shabaab terrorists,” he added.
