Ambassador Foster Under Pressure for Halting a Road Project in Somalia

Kate Foster, the United Kingdom Ambassador to Somalia, is under increasing pressure after ordering the suspension of a road project in the East African nation.

Local communities and leaders from Galmudug, where the project was halfway done, have voiced their concerns over Ambassador Foster’s decision to terminate the construction of the road.

While giving their views, the leaders and the communities they represent, accused Ambassador Foster of “regional bias.”

The community had partnered with donors to raise $6 million for the construction of the Galkayo-Hodyo road project.

Around 150kms of the road has been completed. Roughly 120kms remain untouched.

However, it’s unclear whether the remaining portion would receive the much-needed attention and funding following Ambassador Foster’s announcement.

Local leaders have warned Ambassador Foster that her unilateral decision could damage the reputation that the UK currently enjoys among communities around the country.
