The African Union Support and Stabilization Mission (AUSSOM) will be formed to take over as the new mission in Somalia.
AU announced its endorsement of AUSSOM as the new mission in Somalia today.
The continental body declared that the new body would take over from the AU Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
ATMIS’ mandate expires on December 31, 2024.
Before then, ATMIS would have withdrawn its forces completely from the East African nation.
ATMIS itself took over the security and stabilization responsibilities in the country from the AU Mission to Somalia (AMISOM).
