Tarekegn Bululta has declared that Ethiopia would be the first country in the world to recognize Somaliland’s sovereignty.
Bululta, Ethiopia’s State Minister for Industry, made this vow on Sunday.
The State Minister indicated that the Ethiopian government remains committed to the realization of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) it signed with Somaliland on January 1, 2024.
In the MoU, Ethiopia was to recognize Somaliland as a sovereign state.
In turn, Somaliland would accord Ethiopia direct access to its seaport.
The MoU has created a huge diplomatic row between Ethiopia and Somalia, which accuses the former of dishonoring its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
