EU Ambassador Urges FGS to Demilitarize Mogadishu

Nicolas Berlanga, the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Somalia, has urged the government to demilitarize Mogadishu.

Ambassador Berlanga was speaking on May 3.

He made the speech on Monday; a few days after President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo assured the country that he would not extend his term in office.

Recently, the capital city was the scene of violent clashes pitting two factions of the country’s security forces.

Berlanga urged authorities to halt the division of Somalia’s capital city between militias and command security forces.

He also advised all stakeholders to support Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, who is tasked with preparing the country for elections.
