A former Somali minister has blasted the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) over its failure to engage in dialogue with Ethiopia.
Ahmed Isse Awad, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that the government was wrong not to pursue dialogue with Ethiopia over the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Somaliland.
Ethiopia and Somaliland signed a controversial MoU on January 1, 2024.
The MoU entitles Ethiopia to access 20kms of Somaliland’s coastline. Ethiopia would then grant Somaliland the international recognition it craves.
He faulted Somalia for rejecting meetings with Ethiopia proposed by Kenya and Djibouti.
