Kenya has become the latest country to throw its weight behind the Eritrean President.
On Friday, Kenyan President William Ruto was in Eritrea on an official visit thereby joining Somalia and Ethiopia in supporting the formerly isolated President Isaias Afwerki.
President Afwerki has remained an isolated figure on the international front for the past three decades.
Somali and Ethiopian leaders have been warming up to President Afwerki in the recent past.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and ex-President Mohamed Farmaajo of Ethiopia and Somalia respectively closed ranks in 2018.
They then pledged to visit each other’s capital cities.
However, that plan fell flat on its face when conflict broke out between Ethiopia and the Tigray Defense Forces.
