Abdihakim Luman has been elected the new Speaker of HirShabelle Regional Parliament.
Luman was elected on Wednesday, November 4.
He vied for the seat after receiving the support of Villa Somalia.
His victory comes at a time of increased political activity in the semiautonomous region of Somalia.
Earlier this week, President Mohamed Abdi Waare resigned from office ahead of the presidential elections due today.
Luman defeated his challengers in a landslide victory.
