Opposition Parties Set Conditions for Joining Somali President’s National Dialogue

Mogadishu – Five key Somali political associations — Xaqsoor, Samadoon, DPC, Ramas, and Dhulka Hooyo — have jointly declared they will not participate in President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s proposed national dialogue unless specific conditions are met.

In a strongly worded joint statement, the groups urged that the talks be recognized as a “political genuine negotiation” rather than a symbolic forum.

They further called for the formation of a joint technical committee to oversee the agenda and structure of the discussions.

The opposition also stressed the need to separate contentious matters — such as elections and the constitution — from universally important issues like the fight against terrorism.

“Without these guarantees,” they warned, “our participation is off the table.”

The statement reflects mounting political tension ahead of expected national consultations and adds pressure on the presidency to build a more inclusive and credible process.
