Residents of the Middle Shabelle region are a worried lot after 18 people reportedly died of diarrhea.
Most of those killed in the region’s Hawadley district are children.
The lack of quality medical services in the region threatens to claim the lives of 50 others who are currently hit by diarrhea.
Diarrhea first broke out in Beledweyne last month.
It then quickly spread to Bulaburte. In the two districts, it claimed the lives of 30 people.
Authorities say diarrhea broke out when people in camps for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) returned home.
They had been taking shelter in the IDP camps after the recent El Nino rains and floods made their homes unsafe and uninhabitable.
