Police Chief Asad Osman Abdullahi Laid Foundation for New Masagawaa Police Station

MOGADISHU – The Commander of the Somali Police Force, Major General Asad Osman Abdullahi, has laid the foundation stone for a new police station in the Masagawaa area of the Galcad district in the Galgadud region, a project aimed at improving security and justice services for local communities.

The ceremony was attended by Member of Parliament Cabdirisaaq Aadan Warsame, Defence Ministry Secretary Yusuf Ali, Galmudug Minister of Public Works Ahmed Washiton, and the Chairman of the Masagawaa community, Ismail Abdullahi Hussein. The new police station is expected to address the long-standing need for formal law enforcement services in the area and remove obstacles related to access to justice and security that the community has faced.

The Somali Police Chief has previously convened high-level strategic conferences with police personnel in Baidoa, directing law enforcement officials to enhance tactical collaboration with other federal security entities.

Addressing Local Security Needs

The Chairman of the Masagawaa community, Ismail Abdullahi Hussein, expressed gratitude to the Police Chief for the visit and the assessment of local security needs. The foundation stone ceremony marks a significant step in addressing the security and justice challenges faced by the community.

The Police Chief has emphasized the absolute duty of the police force to proactively uphold peace, enforce the rule of law, and maintain strict civic order, as part of broader efforts to stabilize the region.

Security Infrastructure in Galgadud

The Galgadud region has been a focus of the federal government’s security and development efforts, with community engagement and law enforcement playing key roles. The Defence Minister and Army Chief have previously visited Ceeldheer to assess security operations and engage with local communities.

NISA Director Mahad Salad has also visited the Galgadud region to address clan conflicts and strengthen security, underscoring the importance of coordination between security agencies.

Community Engagement and Electoral Participation

Voter registration has begun in neighbouring Ceeldheer, with residents lining up to participate in the upcoming one-person, one-vote elections, highlighting the broader democratic transition underway in the region.

A high-ranking Al-Shabaab commander, Abdirahman Talxo Shuuke, recently surrendered to Galmudug regional forces, citing internal fragmentation within the militant group and sustained pressure from Somali security forces.

Way Forward

The new police station in Masagawaa is expected to enhance security and justice services for the local community, contributing to the broader stability of the Galgadud region. As the federal government continues its efforts to strengthen law enforcement and engage local communities, the expansion of security infrastructure will remain a key priority.
