Shipping Vessel Target of Pirate Attack off Somalia’s Coastline

A shipping vessel came under intense attack by pirates off the coastline of Somalia on Friday, August 13.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Organization reported this incident on its website.

In its report, the maritime organization stated that the incident took place roughly 100 nautical miles to the northeast of Mogadishu.

This is the first incident of this magnitude off the Somali coastline in the last two years.

Increased surveillance by local and international agencies and organizations has created relative stability and peace in the waters surrounding this East African nation.

From 2010 to 2019, Somali pirates were responsible for kidnapping over 2,300 shipping crews.

A crew of 20 people was on board the ship that came under pirate attack this week.
