Somali Forces Repel Al-Shabaab Attack in Middle Shabelle

MOGADISHU — Somali government forces successfully countered a dawn assault by Al-Shabaab militants on a military base in Middle Shabelle earlier this week, subsequently securing the location after intense combat.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Defense confirmed that insurgents launched an attack on Somali National Army (SNA) positions in the Jabad Godabe area. Government forces effectively repulsed the offensive, though the ministry did not release official casualty figures. Independent reports indicated that the militant group suffered substantial losses, although these accounts could not be independently verified at the time.

Following the engagement, military personnel initiated a comprehensive security operation and clearance activities in the vicinity to eliminate remaining fighters and prevent potential regrouping. The incident occurs as the Federal Government escalates military campaigns against the group, particularly in regions close to the coastal town of Warsheikh.

The operation is part of a wider strategy to restore security and protect civilian populations in central regions where the insurgents have historically maintained strongholds. Al-Shabaab has not yet issued a statement regarding the clash
