Somali Military Repels Al-Shabaab Attack in Middle Shabelle

MOGADISHU — Somali security forces have launched simultaneous offensive and defensive operations across the southern and central regions of the country, countering Al-Shabaab attempts to regroup in key strategic areas.

In the south, elite Danab commandos have initiated targeted operations in the vicinities of Kismayo, the interim capital of Jubaland. Sources indicate the maneuvers were prompted by intelligence reports suggesting militant fighters were attempting to reorganize in the Lower Juba region.

The campaign, which commenced late Monday, involves Danab units working alongside Jubaland regional forces and local Macawisley fighters. The joint forces are conducting sweeps for Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) along critical supply routes and have deployed troops to surrounding villages to dismantle militant networks. Commanders on the ground have reported that these recent missions have successfully disrupted insurgent activities, reaffirming the commitment to re-establishing government authority in areas previously under militant influence.

Attack Repelled in Middle Shabelle

Concurrently, in the central region of Middle Shabelle, government forces successfully repelled a dawn assault by Al-Shabaab militants on a military position earlier this week.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense, insurgents attacked Somali National Army (SNA) positions in the Jabad Godabe area during the early morning hours. Government troops engaged in heavy fighting before pushing back the assault and securing the perimeter.

While the ministry did not release specific casualty figures, independent sources reported significant losses on the militant side, though these accounts have not been officially verified.

The attack occurs as the Federal Government intensifies military campaigns in the region, particularly near the coastal town of Warsheikh. Security personnel are currently conducting clearance operations in and around Jabad Godabe to track down retreating fighters and prevent any further regrouping attempts.

These developments mark a continuation of the government’s multi-front strategy to dislodge Al-Shabaab from its remaining rural strongholds while defending liberated territories from counter-attacks.
