Somali Parliament Concludes Debate on First 4 Chapters of Constitutional Amendments

Somalia’s federal parliament has concluded debate on the first four chapters of the nation’s constitutional amendments.

Legislators from the House of the People (Lower House) and Senate (Upper House) held a bicameral session on Saturday to conclude debate on the amendments.

The debate has been raging since February 12 this year.

After more than 40 days of earnest debate, they finally finished debating amendments to the first four chapters of the Provisional Constitution.

This happened despite growing opposition to the amendments.

Former Presidents Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Mohamed Farmaajo are currently in Garowe to discuss the amendments with Puntland’s President Said Abdullahi Deni.

Sharif and Farmaajo firmly oppose to the amendments.
