Mogadishu, Somalia – The Federal Republic of Somalia has warmly welcomed France’s groundbreaking announcement of its intention to officially recognize the State of Palestine, describing the move as a courageous and principled step in support of international law, justice, and peace in the Middle East.
In an official statement released by Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mogadishu commended the French government for affirming its support for the Palestinian people’s legitimate right to self-determination and statehood. The announcement, Somalia noted, aligns with long-standing United Nations resolutions and the global consensus on a two-state solution.
“This historic step taken by the French Republic represents a powerful affirmation of the Palestinian people’s right to live in dignity, peace, and security within their own independent and sovereign state. It also sends a clear signal that justice and international law must be upheld in the face of occupation, displacement, and suffering,” the Somali government said in its statement.
Somalia reiterated its steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and urged other nations to follow France’s lead in recognizing Palestine as a sovereign state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Somali government further emphasized the importance of renewed international efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, calling for an immediate end to all forms of violence, human rights violations, and the illegal expansion of settlements.
France’s announcement, widely praised by several countries and human rights organizations, comes amid growing calls within the international community for decisive action to advance Palestinian statehood and end decades of conflict.
Somalia concluded its statement by reaffirming its commitment to work with international partners to promote a just and lasting peace in the Middle East based on mutual respect, sovereignty, and the rule of law.
