Somaliland has snubbed the recently signed agreement on development cooperation between the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and the United Nations.
A communiqué from Somaliland’s government said that the agreement “infringed on the country’s sovereign integrity.”
Furthermore, the statement from authorities in Hargeisa also called the agreement “a violation of Somaliland’s internal affairs.”
While rejecting the agreement, authorities also stated categorically that Somaliland was not part of Somalia’s administrative regions.
The remarks came on a day celebrated as the National Martyr’s Day in Somaliland.
On this day, the people of Somaliland remember their heroes who fought for the country’s sovereignty from Somalia on May 18, 1991.
Initially, the day was celebrated around the country on June 26, the day when Somaliland attained independence from colonialists in 1960.
